To transition to John Jay College as a CUNY Justice Academy student, you simply need to:
Graduate with an Associate’s Degree from one of the seven partner community colleges (BCC, BMCC, GCC, HCC, KBCC, LGCC, and QCC) in one of the following majors:
Applied Math
Biology
Chemistry
Computer Science
Criminal Justice
Critical Thinking and Justice
English
Forensic Accounting
Forensic Science
History
Human Services
Liberal Arts
Philosophy
Science
Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher if you are in the Criminal Justice, Forensic Accounting, Human Services, Liberal Arts, or Computer Science major, and a minimum GPA of 2.5 if you are a Forensic Science, Biology, Chemistry, or Science major;
Demonstrate CUNY skills certification in one of the following ways:
Math
Pass a credit-bearing college level math course with a C or better outside of CUNY or any passing grade within CUNY
English
Earn a C or better in a 3-credit college level English courseĀ
Remember: If you earn your associate degree, you are considered fully skills certified!
Additional requirements for students who were previously dismissed from John Jay
If you are a student who has attended John Jay in the past and was dismissed due to academic performance, you have options as a CJA student! The Academic Forgiveness Policy allows you to have your prior John Jay GPA erased provided you meet all of these criteria:
Have earned less than 45 credits at John Jay prior to dismissal or leave on academic probation.
Earn your associate degree from one of our CJA partner community colleges (Borough of Manhattan, Bronx, Hostos, Kingsborough, LaGuardia, or
Queensborough community colleges).
Complete at least 30 credits at your community college.
Complete a CJA major (Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Forensic Accounting, Forensic Science, or Human Services). For a list of available CJA majors at your institution: http://resources.jjay.cuny.edu/cja/program.php.
Earn a community college GPA of at least 2.0.
If you are a returning John Jay student, we encourage you to meet with your local CJA advisor to determine if you are subject to the CJA Academic Forgiveness Policy.
